Uh Huh Her

I suppose it's a bad thing that I only really, truly like PJ Harvey post 2000.

(Does this ring 'Fuck The People' by a certain Kills for anyone else?)
This is a personal favourite of mine.

I don't think that the Thom Yorke/PJ Harvey collaboration really worked that well. Unfortunately Miss Polly Jean's voice is ever so slightly drowned out by the featuring artist who should surely only feature in one verse and backing vocals on the chorus?

I really like this new PJ Harvey material though. So different and very Bjorky.

Mish/mash

YOU KNOW THAT:
DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979
MICK JAGGER
"After months of speculation it looks like Kate Moss and Jamie Hince are finally set to marry, we read. The Kills man apparently popped the question to Moss while the couple were in bed on Tuesday night (February 1). Ever the romantic, he waited until the lights were off before surprising her with the announcement. Moss has supposedly quipped that she is going to be the most famous Kate to marry this year – eclipsing a certain Ms Middleton's wedding to Prince William (The Sun)."
The rawest, most nervous Jack & Meg I have ever seen.. "Then, after the second show, Jack White decided he wanted to have some fun, and followed a group of us (including future NME editor Krissi Murison, who gave him a lift) to an indie club in central London. Once there he bought us drinks, chatted to amazed fans and gyrated to Justin Timberlake's 'Like I Love You' on the dancefloor. It was beyond surreal."

Contrary to my initial reaction, I am not one of those people who feels that The White Stripes are dead. Neither am I one of those people who feels like they are one of the only bands to ever disband purely on artistic bases. I mean think about it, The White Stripes have supposedly been in the recording studio for the past year. If this is true than what Jack White said about releasing unreleased White Stripes material is just a bit of a fix to boost sales for their new material. (We've already seen their most recent release of Under Great White Northern Lights sales boost by 2,644% due to their split) The only difference is that the future released material won't be followed up by any live appearances - for the next few years anyway... So yes, farewell for now White Stripes, I have no doubt I will seeing more of you in the future.
P.s, I want nothing more than for you to prove me wrong about the Janus accusations.

Four months late, I know.

You watch this for a minute thinking 'No... this can't possibly be Ladytron...' but then the oboe comes in and it's like 'oh yes! I remember now!' and then you hear the vocals and it's none other than Bryan Ferry (although I personally like to pretend it's Thom Yorke) but yeah, I had never heard of James Small until I found out Jamie Hince from The Kills had kindly made the promo vid for his collection. Both artists talented in their own right of course.

From Noel Fielding to Louie Spence, it seemed like everybody was at the W Hotel party celebrating James Small and the premier of this short film.

I love this picture of Agyness Deyn and Florence Welch together. It seemed like the party.

Still, Kate Moss had been there. And had I of known at the time that she would go on to later throw the ONLY copies of The Kills' 6 new songs for the new album into a swimming pool, I would of suffocated her. But yes, this is all in hindsight and rather retrospective.

Last night I indulged in Sky Arts 1. I watched 'David Bowie at 50' or whatever it was called for an hour, my God isn't he still so dandy? I then watched Andy Warhol's Factory People which was basically a load of 'once-upon-a-time-NY-cool-cats' rambling on about how high everybody was when they went to the 'Factory' and how unapproachable yet genius Warhol was. Still, it was interesting. Then I watched a Sex Pistols reunion gig from a few years back. My problem with that was the idea of there being no Sid. I know Sid isn't the entire cusp of the band, however, he played a massive part in their look, attitude and reputation. (Notice how I didn't say musicality, yes, Sid Vicious was a shit bassist). But nevertheless, Johnny Rotten is still as impressionable as ever, and still as much of a fucking cunt. God I salute him. Then finally, due to the whole drug, rock n'roll, punk, cool kid fuelled night I put on Velvet Goldmine when I went to bed. He he, I woke up feeling so trashy.

When I woke up I watched The Shackles of Sherlock. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand Conan Doyle's personal pursuit to be known for more significant things than Sherlock. But ultimately Sherlock brought Doyle fame and fortune, his 14th century novels did not. And for a man in circumstances such as his, perhaps selling out ever so slightly by providing the world with the addictive sleuth of a substance that is Sherlock Holmes was maybe an OK thing to do....
Moving on, today I caught up with some peeps and went to Tesco all before cooking dinner. This time it was roast pork with pears & parsnips. Twas most delicious. Now I'm besotted with Alice Glass pictures and learning about the 88 modern constellations. Oh but actually, I want to relive the return of Sherlock Holmes - The Empty House.

This played in The Apprentice. Which I find pretty fucking amazing.

This morning I attempted to make pancakes. I failed miserably. Now I'm going to go and watch last nights Misfits. Don't get me wrong, I like Misfits, however I don't think it's anything that amazing. It's just one of those cult shows which will suffice teenagers whilst Skins isn't on. But I mean don't get me wrong, it's far better than Skins.

& she wonders why her eyes hurt

I've been watching Peep Show since 3:30. Is it any wonder my eyes are constantly all puffy & red?
But I mean c'mon, you've got to love these guys!

In other news I'm very sad to report I doubt we'll be having a snow day tomorrow. Which is upsetting because me and Emily had already basically planned it all out - our snow days are the best. The upside to all of this however is that I'm going to a party on saturday. Which is incredible considering I haven't been to a party in weeks. Yes, actual weeks! So yes roll on a snow day tomorrow, failing that just roll on the weekend!

I leave ya'll with a bit of Kills. How have I still not got the albums?

On top of the world

Everyone should listen to the sound of sleigh bells. Especially with it being all wintery and christmas-esque weather, right? What am I kidding that was a bloody awful reason to listen to them. Just listen to them if you like M.I.A, The Kills, Alison Mosshart, YYY's and/or Karen O.
