Update 2

I think I'm going to delete Facebook soon. Yes, I'm up for being dramatic.
Not even being particularly outspoken or trying to stand for a lost cause or anything, I just never use the darn thing. I try and fail miserably but for me, using Facebook is the equivalent to shopping at Republic.

Yesterday I went to one of those Open Days at the Colchester Institute. When one of the guys was chatting to me about the Popular Music course my eyes began to wander and boredom sunk in. In not so many words, it didn't really seem to hold my attention. To be fair though, a lot of the information I was hearing I already knew. The popular music diploma, and then furthermore a popular music BA doesn't really seem to hold anything. Whereas if I just took normal music, that would stand up a lot taller. The popular music course seems far more "dossy." For instance, you don't even need to be graded in any instrument to do the course. Initially I thought this was a good thing as it gives those who are just naturally talented a chance to prove themselves, however now I think it just shows a lack of structure. Which is precisely the very thing I have been begging to be extinguished from my education, I know. On originally leaving the institute I thought that the chance of a further education in music was a lost cause, however now I'm not so sure... for example I don't think I want to do any form of a music A level anymore. That in itself completely rules out going to either the grammar school or the girls high. Although I am starting to get my head around doing a popular music diploma.

I'm also torn on whether to do an Art diploma at the institute or not. If I was given complete reassurance that I could still get into a top Uni or Arts College with the diploma and then a foundation course then I reckon I would 100% go and just do art. However, considering Art History is a top higher education choice for me, I doubt this particular path would allow me to pursue with that. The ridiculously laid back teacher of the course seemed really intrigued, but nonetheless impressed with my desire to do Art History. He mentioned some current students want to do the same thing, and the Essex University, with some arm twisting, seem to've began to accept students with the institute's diploma. However that's just Essex, never mind the likes of Camberwell or Oxbridge. I don't actually mean to sound conceited, it's just who doesn't want to go to the creme de la creme, right?

I would say that I have indeed got some difficult choices to make in the not to distant future. And yes, no matter how much I try and trivialise A levels and pretend they don't matter, I'm afraid to think that actually, they make a hell of an impact on what you may go onto do later in life. One golden rule of performing for instance is that a performer is only as good as their last performance... I'm ashamed to think this applies to education.
