My parents brought me up with rather traditional values and don't buy into the whole ideology of celebrating something which is so completely banal. I quite enjoy the dressing up aspect of it but I don't get what's with the trick or treating, pumpkins and watching really horrific movies.
To me, like anything, it's just an excuse to go out on the lash with some good friends.
BUT YES APART FROM THIS! I went to the Criterion Restaurant today with father of mine, sister of mine, auntie of mine and two cousins of mine. It was surprsingly lovely! You wouldn't think that out of the front door lies Piccadilly Circus, at all. It's just oh so quiet and tranquil. And the restaurant itself is so beautifully decorated. You really have to go there to see what I mean. Another upside to it was that it wasn't nearly as posh as I had first expected. I mean three courses for £30 isn't bad if you ask me.
"On the very day that I had come to this conclusion, I was standing at the Criterion Bar, when some one tapped me on the shoulder, and turning round I recognized young Stamford, who had been a dresser under me at Barts. " - Doctor Watson, A Study In Scarlet.
This made me smile so much! There's actually a plaque inside the restaurant with the names Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson enscribed onto it. Absolute highlight of the entire experience was that Doctor Watson was there once upon a time, which led to him meeting Sherlock Holmes due to a meeting he had with an old friend etc... you know what I mean if you read what I mean.
So yes. In conclusion, a rather marvellous day. The only downside is that I had to come home.
Which means I have silly school in the morning. I think I'm allowed to use the term 'FML' in this instance, right?
